Some place names included in The North Carolina Gazetteer contain terms that are considered offensive.

"The North Carolina Gazetteer is a geographical dictionary in which an attempt has been made to list all of the geographic features of the state in one alphabet. It is current, and it is historical as well. Many features and places that no longer exist are included; many towns and counties for which plans were made but which never materialized are also included. Some names appearing on old maps may have been imaginary, but many of them also appear in this gazetteer.

Each entry is located according to the county in which it is found. I have not felt obliged to keep entries uniform. The altitude of a place, the date of incorporation of a city or town, may appear in the beginning of one entry and at the end of another. Some entries may appear more complete than others. I have included whatever information I could find. If there is no comment on the origin or meaning of a name, it is because the information was not available. In some cases, however, resort to an unabridged dictionary may suggest the meaning of many names."

community in S Transylvania County.

East Fork Chattooga River

rises in S Jackson County and flows S into South Carolina, where it enters Chattooga River.

East Fork Crabtree Creek

rises in S Mitchell County and flows NW into Crabtree Creek.

East Fork Creek

rises in E Beaufort County and flows S into Pamlico River.

East Fork Deep River

rises in W Guilford County and flows SE into High Point Lake, where it joins West Fork Deep River in forming Deep River.

East Fork French Broad River

rises in S Transylvania County and flows SW and NW into French Broad River.

East Fork Gap

E Haywood County on the head of Garden Creek.

East Fork Grassy Creek

rises in S Mitchell County and flows NW to join Middle Fork Grassy Creek in forming Grassy Creek.

East Fork Lake

in central Jackson County on Tuckasegee River. Formed in 1955 to be a reservoir for Nantahala Power and Light Company. Combines with Wolf Creek Lake, which see, to generate hydroelectric power. Covers 40 acres, with max. depth of 120 ft. Shoreline is 3.2 mi. Named for East Fork of Tuckasegee River, an old name for the Tuckasegee River.

East Fork Overflow Creek

rises in SE Macon County and flows SW to join West Fork Overflow Creek in forming Overflow Creek.
