former Indian village in NE Rockingham County on Dan River. Site approx. 2 mi. E of Leaksville. Probably occupied by Saura Indians by the middle of the seventeenth century and abandoned in early eighteenth century. Saura or Sara meant "a place of tall grass or weeds."
