Ellendale

community in W Alexander County. Formerly known as Ellendale Chalybeate Springs, a summer resort. Named for Ellen Reid, daughter of the owner of the spring.

Ellendale Township

W Alexander County.

Eller

community in N Davidson County. Alt. 902. Named for one Eller, who settled in the vicinity about 1753. Also known locally as Midway because of its position between Lexington and Winston-Salem.

Eller Branch

rises in N Buncombe County and flows NW into Madison County, where it enters Ivy River.

Eller Cove

N Buncombe County between McDairies Ridge and Greenfield Ridge.

Ellerbe

town in N central Richmond County. Scottish settlers in the eighteenth century had a fair at the site each May and November, and it came to be known as The Fair Grounds. After W. T. Ellerbe developed a popular watering place at nearby Ellerbe Springs, the present name began to be applied. Inc. 1911. Produced hosiery.

Ellerbee Creek

rises in W Durham County about 2 mi. W of Durham and flows E and NE about 11 mi. into Neuse River. Known earlier as Alliby Creek and Elliby Creek.

Ellicott Mountain

S Jackson County near the head of East Fork Chattooga River. Alt. 3,800. Named for Andrew Ellicott (1745-1820), who surveyed the North Carolina-Georgia state line in 1813.
