Be a trained nurse

More and more women were working outside the home in the 1910s, and this poster spoke to women’s desire for a career of their own. Nursing, it said, “offers almost unlimited opportunities.” Over 22,000 professionally-trained American Red Cross nurses participated in the war, and more than 1,500 nurses served in the U.S. Navy. American nurses worked in the Brititish and French armies. Black and immigrant nurses were not allowed to work overseas, however.
